Hi Res for WC:Prophecy

Spaceman
I Haven't played Prophecy for quite some time and the last time I played, It was on my old computer, with an early 3dfx video card. I now have a Pentium III, 750meg, with a Nvidia Ti 4200 video card. The problem is that I can only get blocky 640 x480 graphics and I'm sure that I was getting graphics on my old computer that compared with the graphics on Freespace. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? I've tried both software and d3d settings and all I get are the ugly graphics. Unless my memory is playing tricks with me, I'm sure that the graphics that I used to get were a lot better than 640 x 480. What say, someone please? Thanks.

Being an older game (released 1997), Prophecy runs at 640x480. HCl has made a hi-res patch for Secret Ops, if you're interested. It increases the resolution to 800x600 and 1024x768.

What you're probably noticing is the lack of a few effects. The game was optimized for Voodoo based video cards. You can get most of the effects by installing the SO graphics files (which supported most effects for D3D) over those in Prophecy. These files are, I believe, available in the Files Section

The only thing I can't get in D3D is fogging. Lens flares are made available simply by copying this patch into the Prophecy directory.

After reading this again... I realise how spoilt gamers are these days. I'm not fortunate enough to have played or even seen many modern games, so 640x480 still looks very good to me (I was impressed just watching a friend play Counter-Strike!). Of course, most WC I've played lately are the earliest ones - good ol' 320x200 resolution!

*Dreams back to Grim Fandango and Sam & Max Hit the Road* ... Ah... 640x480 and 320x200 produced some fiiiiiiiiiiine games... *Slaps every spoilt gamer with the box for Secret of Monkey Island*

Digger! That had to be my favorite game when I was a kid! I'd been looking all over for a copy of it, but all I kept finding were sites on Dig-Dug, which this game seems to be based on.

I take back every mean thing I've ever said about you, Wedge.

Hm, I get the impression you're farther back than I am... Sam & Max and Monkey Island 1/2-era?

Hell, Monkey Island 1 came with my first "real" PC ( I had a Commodore 64 before that) and I just recently bought Monkey Island 3 that contains MI1 and MI2 just for the reminicsing :).
