Here is a complete Privateer boot disk zipped

Here, after many weeks of searching the net and reading this board, is the complete boot disk I use to play Privateer 1.

Follow this link PrivBootZip to download the zipped file (349kb) and then unzip it to a formatted floppy disk. Reboot your computer with the floppy in drive a:\ and Privateer in your cdrom drive, and you should boot straight into the game.

The zip file contains all the programs you should need with a universal cdrom and mouse driver. It also uses a great little program called fix27 that helps load TSR's into high memory and reclaims the space they were useing. The only thing you should need to do is check what .com program your sound card uses, edit lines 4&5 in the autoexec.bat and copy your sound cards .com file to the root directory on drive a:\

All up you should get about 608kb of conventional memory, more than enough to play the game (it only needs 570kb).

Hope this helps all those that are having trouble with their boot disks. Maybe one of the admin people here can fix this post to the top of the forum as well to save everyone needing to search.

Okay, thanks Kris.

Just fixed a small problem I thought of (it was 4am when I uploaded the file) where I have installed Privateer to drive E:\. I have now set the autoexec.bat to the default install drive of C:\.

The file is on a hotmail community webpage and you will need to create a "passport" to view it, unless you already have a hotmail account.

If you have trouble viewing the page, email me Hartygan and I will send you the file :)

One other thing I have thought of, if you have already installed Privateer, then when you reboot as I suggested below you will get a message that looks like this:

Privateer CD not found.
JEMM unloaded.
C:\Privater

This is because you cdrom is now designated as drive F:
So at this point you just type:

f:\install <enter>

and install the game again. Type priv after you save your settings and you will start the game. Next time you boot as I suggested in the first post, you will boot straight into the game.

If you have not already installed the game, you will get a message of Directory not found. Just do the f:\install <enter> as above and enjoy one of the great games of old.

I have just put together a little webpage to make access to my boot disks so much easier.

My Privateer Boot Disks

You will find complete boot disks for Privateer 1 and Privateer 2: The Darkening, as well as support documents for useing them.

Have a look and try them out, I would like to know if they work on other computers as I think they should.

I have just added a couple of self extracting .exe disk images of my boot disks to the web site.

They contain the same as the .zip files do, but they will self-extract, format a disk in drive A and install to it. :)
