I've encountered errors that I've never seen before running Prophecy.

DD::setDisplayMode no such mode 640x480x16

I'm Running Prophecy on:
333 mghz Amd-k6-2
Windows 98
Voodoo 3 Graphics card
128 ram

I am unable to locate any websites with notation of this error.

If you have a solution or a link to a site that does, please E-mail me at

Schizopower@aol.com

A prompt answer would be appreciated.

umm

I just went and did the voodoo 1, 2 patch... i dont know why i did since i have a 3. And no i odnt have gold.

oh yeah and the voodoo 1,2 patch obviously had no effect on the problem.

it does indeed have an effect that you would have noticed later. It's a patch for Voodoo 2 and later. Prophecy made use of an undocumented 'feature' (read: bug) in the original Voodoo that would crash the games when using the later incarnations of the card that weren't backwards compatible with that particular function.

Are you, perchance, running HCl's High Resolution patch?

errr

To make this simple, I've played the game before on this machine so i know that it has worked in the past, I wiped, reformated, and reinstalled all the basic hardware of this thing this week, so in short. I have no patches, fixes, mods, or anything else other than the origin patch for the voodoo1 and 2 cards.

It's a new one on me then, suggestions include killing and reinstalling prophecy, making sure you have the newest video drivers installed, trying prophecy in all the different video settings and if none of that works, dumping back a couple of versions in DirectX (assuming you're at the latest version, if you aren't, first try using the newest one)

ok

Alright, I appreciate you trying to help, on Direct X i ahvent actually installed the latest ones yet and i figured id start with the 5 that comes with the CD. But anyway I'll reinstall. thanks.

YAY

I resolved the problem, I did like you said and reinstalled.
That didnt help(no offense) So i went and erased all of my current 3dfx drivers and went to voodoofiles.com, and got one of their 3rd party driver programs, from a chain of voodoo drivers labeled as 3dhq files and it works fine... there an answer if you see this again.
