Help with escort misions in WC1

I'm playing this game for the first time and i don't understand how this misions work. I protect the ship and wait for them getting to the Tiger Claw. All ok for now.

But when they reach this the escorted ship just turn around and go away...

¿Why? I have lost the McAuliffe 3 because of this and now i'm playing Brimstome 2 and its the same. ¿Its because of the damage or something like this?
¿Or a bug?
I have escorted the Exeter destroyer like 150.000 of Tiger's Claw... but it nevers disappear os something like that--

Do you get the happy or sad music when you arrive back at the Tiger's Claw mission? You could be doing more poorly in the earlier McAuliffe missions, and that's sending you to Brimstone. How did McAuliffe 1 and 2 go?
