HCl Develops Prophecy Video Skip Fix (April 28, 2004)

Famous Wing Commander editor HCl has developed a patch that fixes the skipping video in Wing Commander Prophecy. Although it's a simple matter to adjust the sound card hardware acceleration, some people dislike this method. This alternative fix allows you to keep your acceleration turned up to its normal level and run Prophecy smoothly. Here's the directions HCl gave at WC Revival.
Download the patch at the bottom, and unzip it to the directory where WCP is installed. Then run Prophecy as usual. This patch co-exists quite nicely with the WCP High-Res patch, if you already have it installed. However, if you install the WCP High-res patch afterwards, you will have to re-install this patch, as a DLL will be overwritten.

First off: I'm really happy to see that someone finally managed to make a patch :) Thx again for the great work HCl ;)

Sorry, ChrisReid, but THAT is nonsense! I've tried this method with 4 different PCs and it worked for NONE! And I'm not the only one for whom this was no fix! - You wouldn't have written that if you would have read both stickies in the TechSupport Forum. - Sorry, but I had to say that, cause I have read similar statements from different people about this problem often enough. Ok, I could fix the bug for ONE of my PCs by using onboard sound, but that doesn't work for everyone either.
So all in all it's great to finally have a patch :) - Haven't test it yet, but will do so at the weekend. ;)

That is right, but if there is a Majority for whom the trick works there is always a Minority for whom it doesn't ;) - And saying, that they just don't like to do so, is like saying they are just too stupid to use it, and that is not true.
And no one really knows how big this Minority really is ;)

You know, I have become a Wing Commander fan all over again thanks to some recent patches that have been released. The Prophecy video patch was awesome, and my eternal thanks go out to HCI for that one. I was also extremely grateful for the slowdown patch for Privateer 2. I had not been able to play that turd in years, and thanks to the efforts of some talented individuals, I remember again why I hated that game so much. It was a blast to play through again though. Thank you!!!

One question: Why hasn't the patch been added to the Download section yet? Or at least the link, cause it seems as if not everyone got that news and stil ask for help (see Tech-Thread).
Or am I just blind and it is there already?
 
I'm also looking forward to trying this patch. I got all of the DirectX patches and Vodoo patches, and they would fix the ingame graphics, but not the movies. I'm sorry, without the story, the game was just not fun. I have reciently downloaded every one of the older wing commander games and am going to try to get them all to work on my AMD 2100 XP system. I've found many different tools out there, so won't start asking for help before I get stuck. Would love to play privateer through again. Never played Privateer 2. It worth my time? That one came out after I left for basic, and before I bought my next computer. Think there were 2 years in there I was PCless... It was WCP that forced me to rebuy one. That game is awesome. So when is Wing Commander Saga coming out? Beta testing? 3 mission demo? I've been talking about it to people I work with, and am looking forward to seeing it.
