Will someone please inform me how to run Privateer on a win98 machine?
Im running a downloaded version of privateer (legaly) so I dont have the disk...
 
He probably thinks it's legal because the site said so.

And I quote: "the game has been discontinued and therefore it is legal to download it"

Well, theoretically if you own the game and lose the disks, you could download a copy. That is because what you actually buy is the license to use the game, not the game itself. Of course, copyright owners won't agree, but hey, the law is not just for them (again, at least in theory).

You cannot license software in that sense like they do it in the USA in most countries in the world. That is you are of course allowed to sell the software for example even if the 'contract' that comes with it says otherwise.
I any case your example is true. If you own it you can DL a copy legally. Its the same as with videogame ROMs.
 
Well, yes and no. The disks (or CDs) are physical, of course, but the software in them is not a *touchable* thing. Anyway, copyright laws say that you can´t dl a game if you don´t own it, so case closed.
 
You buy the licensce to play the game. The actual value of the physical item you are buying is like US$ 3, including box, manuals, DVDs, CDs, etc. The other 47, our 97, are for the copyright thing. :)

This thread is going nowhere. Check one of the other 400 threads on getting Privateer to run on your Windows machine. Post your autoexec.bat and config.sys if you need help with your bootdisk.
