There seem to be a few car enthusiasts on the site, so I thought I would mention the fact that I caught this movie on cable last night. I had actually never seen it before, and was quite impressed with the quality of the cinematogrophy. The character of the old F1 cars was captured very well (especially the scream of those Ferraris!) Besides, who doesn't like a movie with Toshiro Mifune?

I often enjoy the pace at which older movies progressed. There seemed to be less reliance on music and constant action - scenes are quite comfortable with building themselves slowly and deliberately.

In the end, I still think the driving sequences were superior in Le Mans, but that's the kind of movie only a mother could love, so to speak...;)

I once read something about about how the Tie Fighters in Star Wars were actually the sound of F1 cars can anyone confirm this?

From Wookieepedia

The sound for TIE Fighters was created by combining an elephant's scream with the noise of a car driving on wet pavement.

As soon as I read this last post, I played some audio clips of the TIE Fighters from the movie - I totally hear the wet pavement piece! Fascinating...
