Getting Priv sound for SB PCI 64

Hi All,

I'm trying to get sound working for Privateer on DOS. I trawled through the old posts and found many luckless invidiuals like me, but unfortunately none of them have SB PCI 64.

I lost my CD, so I have zero count of DOS drivers. I had to download a Win 98 driver set to get the card working in the first place.

The card is Creative Labs SoundBlaster PCI 64.

Is it possible to get sound working one of those?

I imagine if I can get hold of the DOS driver files (do they exist?) I can make it work -- anyone knows where I can get them?

I use a bootdisk on a PII system. My config.sys and autoexec.bat:

(config.sys)

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE 16384 D=64 FRAME=E000 /I=B000-B7FF RAM

DOS=HIGH,UMB
STACKS=18,256
FILESHIGH=50
BUFFERSHIGH=35
SHELL=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM C:\WINDOWS /P
LASTDRIVE=F

(autoexec.bat)

SET PATH=A:\;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;
SET TEMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
SET TMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
SET PROMPT=$P$G

SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T2

... which I actually got from here.

By the way, the game actually wouldn't load if I set it to use sound. It crashed almost immediately with a JEMM error (don't have it handy here, will post it if needed) with a bunch of memory addresses (NEAR, HIGH, etc etc).

If I set the sound to None, the seems to work fine (haven't gone far yet, I refuse to play sans sound).

Thanks and many thanks in advance!

That is odd though... I have an SB PCI 128, and I got it to work fine in DOS. Granted, the dopes at Creative left the DOS drivers config file incomplete, so I had to fill in a few of the blanks, but it works great now, and the fix wasn't hard at all. Your card should have DOS utilities like sbmixer.exe and sbinit.com or whatever...

http://www.creative.com should have the latest drivers including DOS utilities for their cards, plus they have a specific question/answer section on the SBPCI 64. You'll need to find it on the support site though.

thx

Thanks folks, I'm following the links now. There seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately my comp is also serving as the house network gateway, so I'd have to wait until weekdays to test the drivers.

I'll let you know how things go ...
