hi
just got privateer2 again and i can't get it to work on my new computeur
I'm runing windows xp
so if someone can help me out dame would i be glad
i'v been wanting to play this game again for the last 4 years and finialy in get my hands on one and it dosen't work
for the info i've an athlon XP 1600 + 512 mo ddr
i installed the game but no can run it

Try right clicking on the privateer EXE file and change compatibility mode to win 95.

I don't have xp installed now, so I can't give more precise instructions, and I've only tried it once on another game.

It may, or may not work, but you could always try it.

i've tried geting it to work that way but it dons't wook

ok, I got priv2 working on my laptop but i'm sorry this won't work for most computers. i have the deluxe edition. I set power save mode to full so it slows the cpu to 500mhz.... for some reason running windows xp on 128mb ram and a celeron 1.2ghz down at 500mhz makes priv2 playable. if anyone has a toshiba 1400 and priv 2 go for it...

so i just be better off buying and old configuration mayby
like a p 133

I just got a new xp 1.6ghz pc. I can't install priv2. it says too little disk space.

re privateer 2 on XP

Try looking at the installation requirements for P2.
There is a sticker on my box which reads as follows:

“MS-DOS MODE SOFTWARE. COMPATIBLE WITH MS-DOS 5.X OR HIGHER OR WINDOWS 95. WDOWS 95 REQUIRES A FULLY CONFIGURED MS-DOS MODE ENVIRONMENT WITH DOS SOUND/VIDEO/MOUSE & CD-ROM DRIVERS LOADED.”

WinXP does not have DOS.
As far as I know, a P2 release for WinXP doesn’t exist.
Therefore you will have to do one of the following:
1) Make a MS-DOS boot disk
2) Make a MS-DOS partition on your hard disk.

not true, winxp has command prompt, I've run priv 2 demo which is for dos via that command prompt fine. you need to create a dir called DARK in your c:
then the game should be able to install.

the probleme isn't to instal the game but get it runnig
i've had no real probleme whith installing the game but to get it working just won't work

rip dos 8 off a 98 boot disk and make a multiboot. that way you can set up your drivers for dos in audoexec/config and run it just fine. and you dont have to deal with partitions.

i have a ghost file of a fully set up dos partition that you can install xp over, which will make the multiboot for you automatically if you dont know how to do it manually. i can send that to you if you need so you can speed things up. 1 hitch, it has my sound drivers (cmedia onboard). you have to replace mine with yours, but thats a couple seconds work. also, you need an 'isa' or 'onboard' or 'pci+mobo-pass-through-cable' sound card. otherwise dos wont get sound cause it wants to use channels that dont exist in pci, or have to be emulated, etc.

xp actually can do a dos in 2 ways.
run command.com - real dos but not in control
run cmd.exe - long filename dos-ish window.
but both aren't actual dos, just a sort of running entity.

9x was a dos system, like a shell running in an altered dos state, so it was easier for dos emulated stuff to work. cause XP doesnt have actual dos in it, it is missing some types of EMS memory support also, so games like strike commander wont run even though you run EMS emulation.
