Games like Privateer 2 & Hardwar

Hey All

After much frustrations of trying to get privateer running with joystick and fainling, iwas wondering if there are any flight/ open ended trading games similar.

Ideally from around 97 2001 (only have a p2 700), really like these genres of games but i can't seem to find any done as well as the above 2

any ideas

Freelancer comes to mind. Works on my Athlon 650 with a GF3 2000.
Also probably I-War/I-War2 and X/X-Tension should fall into the category. X2 would as well but probably won't run on yor system.
Stay away from Tachyon which looks open ended, but really isn't (very nice game tho).

i thought Freelancer was puley a online game, if its not fantastic.
playing Tachyon at the moment, your right about it promising more then it delivers, but fun shooter northless.

Nope. Freelancer works both single player and online. Single player you got around 12 missions (which are devided into several parts making it around 30 total I'd say). One they are done (and a bit inbetween) you can do what you like. In a sense the universe is richer then what you saw in Privateer for example as you can find stuff of the routes (like abandoned fighters, alien systems,...)
Once you saw it all there isn't all that much to do however. You cannot buy a fleet of ships for yourself or a base or even some super duper expensive ship. But then I am not that much a fan of free form play so I am biased.

Online play is the same universe then single player with the storyline removed. So you start in freeform play.
