From the over 30 crowd...

This was part of a list that circulated around the office today. Obviously, I thought this group would appreciate the following bullet:

"We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like
Space Invaders" and "asteroids" and the graphics were horrible! Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there
were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and
faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!"

My personal favorite is the part about never winning and the comparison to life. Gave me a chuckle.

Man, Atari 2600 games are really, really boring nowadays. I can barely spend more than 3 minutes playing them.

From the NES onward, on the other hand, gaming is golden. Super Mario Bros 3 is still extremely good. Genesis and SNES both have dozens of games that are still a joy to play.

no kidding. I just had a tournament a few weeks back for Super Mario World. There's just something about those games. I call it "complex simplicity." The games themselves are not overly complicated to play, but to win, and win well, takes skill and resolve.

I had some good childhood memories playing grandpa's 2600 only to realize they were watery versions of good arcade games and now the whole experience is ruined. The 7800 on the other hand was THE back in the day console- it could play 2600 games, and Asteroids 7800 was in fact better than the arcade version.
