I hope this isn't too far off topic, but I got one question to the game. What does the icon on the hud do, that looks a bit like the missile icon, butis on the left side of the navigation bar?

The manual should say, I expect. Anyway, the description is very vague. Maybe it tells the radar/scanner to display ships in the contact-list? ... You don't mean the red pseudo-exclamation mark, do you? The one to the left of the autopilot-modes? THAT I know nothing about.

Yup, that is the one I got troubles with - the "red pseudo-exclamation mark". Actually it looks more like a battery to me. I thought it might be that some (special) guns are aimed at me, but I am not sure at all.

Those icons allow you to select what targets will be displayed in your scanner's information box. The exclaimation mark means that only high-priority targets are shown (enemy targets plus friendly wing leaders). There are also icons to show only loot (the treasure chest), to show all bases in the system (the station icon), to show all ships (the fighter), or to show everything.

Ijuin: That's not the exclamation-mark we're referring to. It's something else, a red little thing in the upper part of the screen. And the manual provided no help there...

Oh well, I suppose it's nothing vital. Unless it implies a mine happened to lock on to you. :)

Oh, if you mean the one that flashes intermittently, then yes, it is the missile lock icon. When it flashes, you should either hit the afterburner or drop a decoy.
