Is it possibble to make patch that will add support for force feedback joysticks for wing commander prophecy
Some sort of fan made patch like hcl high resolution patch.

I don't know if there is anyone who has tried it with wing commander games, but apparently there is a program you can install that translates the bass channel signal from your sound into rumble effects essenialy creating Force Feedback in games in which was never included.... But I'm too lazy to do a google search for you right now

I think the Microsoft Force Feedback Sidewinder Profiler included an option for Prophecy that automatically did something like this.

There are two systems for adding force feedback to games that don't support them. Neither ist true FF of course. One option is taking the bass signal of the speakers. The other one is direct mapping of keypresses to feedback effects. So for example pressing the rocket button would always give a recoil effect. Now if you could provide me with a CURRENT joystick that can do FF...

The system I provided a link for does both and you can turn them on or off individualy as well as adjust which sounds make effects by adjusting the sound frequencies that the program responds to.

Its true that its not "true" force feedback but it does add the effect to a game that doesnt have it to start with. theoretically you could even use this to add force feedback to an old sierra adventure game or even dos wc1 provided you could get it to work in the background with dosbox.

Another benefit is that no hacking of prophecy would be required. I'm sure it may be possible to add a fan-made patch to make FF native in WCP but I imagine that its more work than its worth given that this solution may provide adequate results. I recommend someone (I dont have a FF joystick or gamepad) download the 30 day trial and give us a complete rundown of the results and their overall impressions. Keep in mind though that you will have to experiment with mapping effects to keystroked and adjusting the sound sensitivity untill you personally feel the results are satisfying.

Also note that this company licenses their products to MS, logitech, and a whole buch of other companies that make controlers. A number of people on IRC seem think that microsoft may haveincluded a version of this with its sidewinder in the past and that it came preloaded with a WCP profile.

As I said - get me a (HOTAS) stick that can do FF and I'd buy that tool anyday :-(
My old one a CH Force FX did only use the button-effect mapping and it was kinda great IMHO. Doesn't like the PS/2 port of my current system however. Dunno why.

I think I remember this. I had a friend with a force feedback joystick and it came with a large set of profiles for current games that didn't have force feedback. I'm pretty sure I remember Prophecy being one of them.

Thanks!

I am big fan of WCommander. And also own microsoft ff2 device. So just downloading software from touchware and will see what will be.
Not that wc need ffeedback, but every other sim got that option so why that lazy bastards did not put that in the first place.

Personally when i play wc i dont even use any other joystick then thrustmaster topgun , then on the other hand wc1 or 2 or wc3 4 would be interesting new expirience for me who acctually bought amiga computer beacause of wc 1.

Sorry on me english and spelling.Croatia is far far away like Shreek country, italian and german languages are for turist country like mine more important but we try our best.

Welcome to the forum. Your English is fine. I think more people will take issue with you calling Origin developers lazy bastards because they didn't support force feedback. Very few space sims have native support for feedback effects, and FF joysticks didn't even exist when Wing Commander Prophecy was developed. The Microsoft FF Pro was released in October-November 1997.

Thanks.

First this software is great ,do everything that advertise. Can assign buttons for for almost everything so probbably will use it with Descent and Starlancer (last title has serious problems with ff in my case after few minutes ff stop )

Second . Lazy because when Monster card appeared sent numerous e mails to Origin to make 3d patch ,like some other company did for their game ,but with no answare at all.
That not nice since i paid for my WC games . Not that i regret it but remember Longbow 2 .No other support but for Glide. And than when i bought voodoo patch for my old riva card.

So what? Companies like Origin get thousands of suggestion emails when they release new products. Buying the game doesn't earn you a personal reply, and not replying to all of them doesn't make them lazy. All that also has nothing to do with your original statement claiming they were lazy for not supporting Force Feedback before it existed.

Hi

I dont need to feel special. But ,my point is, when ff appeared they did nothig to implement it in an old product. My exapple was d3d patch also.
Thanks to this forum i become awear that today such software existsts which gives me opportunity to sense wcp in new light, for which i am very gratefull to member who inform us and developers of this great software which probbably afer 30 days i will buy.

Point is i love Orign for what they gave us all , but there is a place for criticism for their support.

Origin didn't have anything to do with Longbow 2 or its lack of d3d options.

Not really. They had pretty amazing support. But this is about how silly it is to call them names for not implementing something that didn't exist when their game was made and was used by only a tiny fraction of their player base afterwards. That being said, they did announce that they intended to create Force Feedback and PowerVR patches for Prophecy, but unfortunately, they were all laid off or reassigned before they could accomplish that.

Ok
You beat me. But still they never try to make some d3d patch or glide support for WC3 or WC4 .
I remember Flying corps for instance.Their programers or coders or whatever how they call those people who develope software ,made glide support short after voodoo card appeard.
I am curious is it so hard to do that in that time or was just worthless of time and their money to do such thing.
Because it would give new perspective to wc 3/4 like now playing WCProp with force feedback.

And by the way this has nothing to do with this above but coudnt help to notice on this forum that some people have problems with wcprophecy and d3d.
Personally after founding zeckensak`s glide wrapper i put away in closet my old computer with voodoo 3 card. WCP works beautifully with this wrapper.
Since you are administrator try it if you like and tell people. In my opinion d3d option is waste since glide support more effects in wcp.

Yeah, it would have been a huge expeniture for a low payoff. 3dfx Cards came out while Flying Corps was still actively being supported and patches were being made in 1997. By that point, WC3/4 were years old and the team had already moved on to developing Prophecy.
