Finally won Ep.3 losing path

Sharpshooter

Rear Admiral
A while ago, I said it seemed to be impossible to both save the Drake and win the episode. I was wrong, it was merely hard.

By the way, I, picked the Gladius for thet Fralthi strike mission and finished the Kilrathi so quickly that I managed to autopilot back to the Firekka before the distress call, and I didn't have to fight any stealth fighters. Maybe it's a bug, maybe not, I just wanted to mention it.

Gorgeous new screenshots, by the way. ;)

One thing I've learned about defense missions in Standoff is it's all about location, location, location. You have to remember not to stray too far from your defensive objective otherwise some bastard will sneak in and launch torps that you have no chance of downing before impact and some fighters are great at pulling you away from those objectives.

They can be smart little kat bastards sometimes.

My mistake - the fact that I didn't encounter any stealth fighters was because I flew straight back to the Firekka instead of going through Nav 1. The fact that it is possible to do this may be still be a bug, however.

And Dundradal, I agree completely. The Kilrathi can be very sneaky. This is especially obvious in the Sao Paulo mission, where the Drakhris are trying to shoot you down while you're busy trying to destroy the Grikaths.

Well, since the stealth fighters are waiting for you at nav 1, you can hardly expect them to intercept you elsewhere :p.

I don't like to give the player the possibility of choosing different paths only to show that the paths are actually all one path. Quite frequently, we allow players to get around combat encounters by flying a different path... and sometimes we also set up hidden encounters that you can only find by not following the mission path.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I think that can be a great idea (especially the "hidden" missions in Episode 1). I just wanted to be sure.

Anyway, fighting Shok'lar fighters is fun. Can't wait to meet more of them, and hopefully we'll get to fight some new Kilrathi fighters in the campaign as well (Hhriss anyone?).

I'm still wondering what flying the Crossbow in the campaign will be like... *looks at the "choices, so many choices" screenshot again*
I'm sure these "three choices" missions will be great - more ships means even more replayability value. It was already obvious in Episode 3; flying a Gladius is really different from flying a Rapier.

Agreed with Sharpshooter, all these goodies are great for replayability. And you're unlikely to see them in a full commercial release game given the time and effort put in to make them work. That's why Standoff and the some of the other fan projects are so good - dynamic campaigns and great detail.

Definitely. I've been testing Ep4 since mid-August and have yet to get the "this is old news" feeling and I've played through both paths (win/lose) who knows how many times :D

It's great that sometimes saving/losing one ship can send you down a totally different path then you took before and provide new missions to explore.
