Error running Privateer (1) in Virtual Dos

Hello everyone.

As with most people here I remember the good old days when Privateer just worked. I've spent the best part of a week trying to get it going and seem now to have got over all the memory problems. I booted into dos using a modified boot disk as well as using VMWare to emulate it in windows. Both times when I try to run Privateer I get:

....

Fatal Error.

Error code: D002-FFFF.
Program halted by code.
JEMM Unloaded.

....

Is this a config problem or do I have an dodgy copy of Privateer. I did download this copy as I can't find my original. I would be happy to buy a new copy but would like to know it would work before buying it for the second time!

Cheers everyone,

Ben

I think that has something to do with inproper soundcard-setup. Look through priv/rf.cfg and make sure the .tre-files are loaded from the HD as well. Provided you have the .tre-files there, of course.

I'm having the same problem, but I can't seem to locate a priv/rf.cfg file in my privateer dir. I see the .tre files, but no cfg files. Could this be why I'm having a problems?

you can create it yourself if it is really missing. It is a text file, so make one and put this in it
=priv.tre
Then put the priv.tre in the privateer directory (copy it from the CD) and you're set.

Though to be really basic about it, the first thing I'd do is make sure windows isn't configured to hide extensions of known file types (it does this by default). If you see a couple files called priv, you are probably not seeing the extensions: one of them is .cfg
