Episode 3 - Losing series problem

Hi,
Finally decided to try Standoff. Great game :D . I've won most of the missions on Rookie, including that Snakeir one. Then I decided to try the Ep.3 losing path, and I'm having a lot of trouble with that Fralthi mission (the one that has you fighting a Fralthi then going back to help the Firekka). When I start fighting, most of my wingmen seem to eject within seconds, and there's nothing I can do to help them. I've tried flying both the Gladius and the Rapier, but that's no use. Sometimes I get very lucky and my wingmen manage to take out the Fralthi before ejecting, but then I have to go back and help the Firekka, and even if I can survive with so few wingmen, I get a note from the Commodore that says that I'm no longer an active pilot because I lost too many ships. I've even tried switching to higher difficulty levels (because I read on these boards that wingmen get smarter when you do this), but it either doesn't help or makes things worse. Bug? Or maybe I lost too many ships in Episode 2? I can't recall losing many ships back then, though... Is the 'ship count' carried from episode to episode? I hope I won't have to replay Episode 2 just to finish this losing path. :P

Yes, the ship count is carried over from episode to episode. Not always, mind you - most of the time, the Firekka manages to get a fresh load of fighters between episodes. In the case of episode 3, you get fresh fighters if you win episode 2... but if you lose, there just isn't anywhere for the Firekka to get any fresh fighters, so you're stuck with whatever you have.

Thanks Quarto! That's good to know. I guess I'll try replaying Episode 2, then. Maybe I lost too many fighters while taking out that Ralatha after all.
The more I play Standoff, the more I'm amazed. Congratulations to the whole team. :)

It worked! I got past this mission. However, I'm now stuck on the last mission because of the same bug Falcon988 had a while ago... The Firekka tries to force its way through even though the battle hasn't started. Just so you know, my last 'e-mail' said that I only had 6 Gladii left. Maybe it has something to do with it? Hopefully this strange bug will be fixed when Episode 4 is released...

EDIT : Oh, and some more info : I did not save the Drake. Hope that helps in tracking down the bug. :)

It may, actually. I used a function to count the amount of remaining torpedoes; it is probable that this check is trigger sooner than it's supposed to, before the Gladii are actually launched. As I did most of the testing *with* the Drake (and the Drake does carry torps) the mission was functionning normaly. We'll take a look at the source.

That would explain it... I did some more testing and cheated (you know, Ctrl-F12 :p ) so that I would save more Gladii (around 10) AND the Francis Drake... And the bug did not occur. So it may definetely have something to do with the Drake.

Well try that same thing without the Drake and try to find if you can do it with a sufficient number.

The Drake had been destroyed when I experienced that bug also. I never tried it with the Drake because, well, I was never able to save it. So yes, the Drake definately could have something to do with it and it's good that we're narrowing down variables for you all.

I would gladly do that, but I don't play Standoff on my own computer (it's not powerful enough), and I'm no longer on vacation, so that means no more playing Standoff for a month or so. Anybody should be able to do this, though :

1) Play the fourth mission of Episode 2. Go to the first Nav point, then instead of going to the Ralatha, set your autonav for the Firekka. Autopilot and land.

2)For the fifth mission, hold shift and type shoehorn while in flight. Use Ctrl-F12 to destroy your targets quickly.

3)For the episode 3 losing path use ctrl-F12 in each mission until you get to the nav point where you're suposed to save the Drake : This time, just fly around until it's destroyed (or at least, don't strike any fighters attacking it). Then use Ctrl-F12 to destroy your enemies.

4)See what happens in the last mission, I guess. If Freyers is annoyed before you can even hit autopilot, the bug is there.

You know, you can use Ctrl-F12 on your own ships too, it'd be even faster ;)

Um, yes, now that you mention it, it would indeed be a lot faster. :D
I guess I had forgotten that it worked on allied capships too.

Finally! I was able to replay the mission, and I can confirm than it is impossible to win without the Drake, even with all of your fighters.

is there any fix available for this one? i got the same prob... :(
maybe i have to try to save the drake ....

We will fix the problem - the fix will be included in the next episode. I'm still kicking myself for not fixing it in time for the Ep. 3 patch we released :(.

For now, the only solution is simply to save the Drake, unfortunately.
