EA Replay/PSP

Hi!

Haven't posted for quite a while (again) but I try to check wcnews at least once a week, so of course I read about the release of EA Replay - great news! WC, Syndicate and Budokan are some of my favourite games of old. Road Rash sounds like fun too.
I'm definately going to get the collection and most probably a PSP for it if no unexpected money troubles arise.

But I am completely illiterate with consoles so I have a few questions. I tried a PSP forum but the tone there was rather appaling. Once again I turn here for information.

First: are there differences between an European PSP and an US PSP that could lead to difficults with compatibility?

Meaning: can I buy a PSP here in Germany and play a game I bought in the US (like EA Replay)? What about movies on those UMDs, do they have region codes like DVDs? Probably.

Second: Does anybody know if EA Replay will be released in Europe as European version? Because I'd hate to have another censored version of Syndicate .
Are there any plans to release EA Replay in Europe?

Since we get WC in the SNES version will the other games also be console ports? Is there a specific reason to have the console version of WC? (Though I am looking forward to it since I only played the SNES version once or twice).

I think that's all right know. As always I thank you in advance for any help/information.

As far as my memory serves me, Europe uses PAL, and the States use NTSC. So check the compatibility on the box, or ask the sales guys. As to your other questions, I have no idea..

Well, sure, if you went and called their handheld a console... ;) (I'm kidding -- but a console is something that sits on a TV).

UMD movies do have some sort of region restriction -- which is a shame, because one of the few UMDs I'd buy would be Dune (released only in Europe). This shouldn't be a huge problem, though, as UMDs are on the way out... with good reason -- putting your existing, higher quality and more useful DVD of something onto a memory stick is a lot more resonable than spending an extra $15-30 for a special PSP copy.

PSP games, however, have no region lock -- you can play EA Replay from the United States on your PSP and I can play the German version of Tomb Raider if I want. Handhelds are actually generally very good about this (the GameBoy/DS family is the same way) -- presumably because they know gaming during a long trip across the Atlantic is a compelling reason to buy a system in the first place.

It will be released in Europe (the European Amazons list it) at roughly the same time as it comes out in the US, but I haven't heard anything about localization.

All the games in EA Replay are either SNES or Genesis ports, or games that were designed for the SNES or Genesis in the first place. The reason is pretty simple -- a PC game is designed for someone who has a keyboard... and a console game is reworked to use a gamepad with a few buttons.

Those are video formats for TVs -- you only have to worry about that when you're buying a European console game (ie, WC3 for the Playstation)... for a PSP, which has a built in screen, video format is entirely internalized.

Thanks a lot LOAF and Dran! :)

I am really looking forward to it. I am going to buy the game as soon as possible but for the PSP I may have to wait until Christmas. Just today an unexpected spending of money announced itself at 100 €. Speak of the devil...
