had to reformat HD and TRied to reinstall WC3,WC4 and PROPHECY, but they have no sound at all, and I've tried everything, including reformat (2X) making bootdisks doesn't help either.. is there a patch out there some where that I can dnld to fix the sound problem?? currently running a pentium 2 @366 w 64M, sound card is a stb 128 (Sound blaster 16 setting to run ) for some reason autodetect doesnt work either,... any help out there???
Patch disk possibly?? or a new set of drivers that recognize the newer generations of sound cards?? Tried turning everthing off bsides the sound card itself,.. tried making a new Bdisk manually, even that didn't work!!
I'm running WIN98se, I don't have any sound at all on my system, and i'm an electronics engineer.. even reloaded all the drivers.. took it back to safe mode, etc.etc. downloaded all the latest hardware drivers, software drivers.. so my ssystem is up to date, even if the cpu is a little slow compared to whats out there thesedays.. any help would be greatly appreciated.. would even buy a gaming systems to play...pls post to this site thx gamers!!!

I would try and get sound running in windows before I bothered trying the games. If the sound card just doesn't work it wont matter what settings you pick. Out of curiosity, does your card have digital output? There might be a setting in the sound card driver controls to turn on or off digital output that will overide the regular sound output. Also, check the mixer settings to see whether sound might be muted somewhere. Being as you are using windows 98 also check the IRQ settings. Make sure there are no conflicts. I would also make sure the speakers didn't get plugged into the wrong output jack (or the line jack or the mic jack)

Also if you have a new XP machine there's no reason not to try and get the games set up on that rig
