Dosbox errors and Kilrathi Saga

Hey so I found a place that I was able to obtain Wing commmander saga excluding WC3. WC1, and 2 both run under windows, but I have an issue with the speed. My machine is way to fast, and can't really play the game. So I installed Dosbox, and mounted my drive. I transversed the directory to my installed game and tried to run WC1, and 2. I get an error that the Game cannot be run in dos mode. So before I go build back up my k62-586 machine. I was wndering if anybody knows how I could slow my machine down.

Well they won't work in Dosbox because they are windows executables. :D

Kilrathi Saga should run fine on any speed computer without any slow-down utilities. It runs absolutely fine on my PC and ran fine before I upgraded it recently. Must be something to do with the version you have.

If you have the proper KS CD1 it should work fine (apart from the WC2 bugginess reported elsewhere on this site) although you should try using different compatibility modes on the .exe files.
And if it's a rip from a warez site you won't get much help here. Although you could try the help at the warez site I suppose. (HOTU I'm assuming).

Worth bearing in mind that NONE of the Wing Commander games are Abandonware.

Yeah I have a pretty beefed up machine so I am definiatly having speed issues. But i guess there r some walk arounds still to try. thank though.

I think ALT+M/N adjusts the KS frame rate and might fix the speed issues, but yeah, KS has some bugs and the online rips of it make those much worse.

For the speed bug I'd try the usual "disable sound acceleration" in DXdiag or try a Windows Slowdown utility like Turbo (found in the file section here). Usually a slowdown of only 1% is enough to reenable the native speed limiter of some WC games.

Give us the details of your PC so we have a better idea what you are trying to run it on: CPU speed and type, RAM, OS, GFX card, Sound Card. That sort of thing. The more the better. :)

Go through the WC1 and WC2 dirs and set all the .exe's to Win98/ME compatibility mode. That worked well for me with no slowdown.

Or buy legit copies of WC1 and 2 off ebay and run them in Dosbox.
