Dosbox and Secret Missions problems

I recently downloaded two zip files, one with WC1 Secret Missions and the other with WC1 Secret Missions 2. I extracted both to my WC folder (c:\oldgames\wc). When I get to the main menu of WC and select "Start Secret Missions," I get the standard screen with ordering information because they aren't installed. When the files extracted, the extraction created a subfolder under my WC folder for each of the Secret Missions. I tried the install file in each folder, but it asks me where the original files are located for the install after I select my configuration. Because they're on the c: drive, I can't select that as an option. All I get is the message that the files are being copied and Dosbox hangs up. I also tried copying all the files directly to the WC folder, bypassing the subfolders and that didn't work. I'm running Dosbox 0.73 and Windows XP Pro Version 5.1. I had no problems at all with WC or WC2. I just want to do the Secret Missions before transferring my character to WC2. I've spent the past three hours surfing the Internet, but I can't find anything about this problem. Thanks in advance for any light anyone can shed on this.
 
First, it's never a good idea to download these unless it's the Kilrathi saga version. Second, I would extract them to the same directory as WC1 instead of a subdirectory.
 
Either you downloaded the legal addons for Kilrathi Saga. These unfortunately do not work with the DOS version.
Or you ILLEGALLY downloaded addons for the DOS versions in which case it could be anything. Not possible to tell which bugs they put into their versions
 
Yeah buddy....downloading these games off the internet, despite what some sites may say about "Abandonware", is NOT legal. Electronic Arts still owns Wing Commander's copyright. Your best bet would be to go on eBay and spend like 10 dollars on an old copy of WC1 with the Secret Missions. A good item is the Wing Commander Deluxe CD - it comes with both WC1 and the Secret Missions all on one disc.
