DOSBox 0.65 joystick rudder/throttle dilemma

Hi all.

I've been trying to get Strike Commander and various other old DOS games to work with my Thrustmaster Afterburner II, and DOSBox does read all the axis movements. But the problem is, it stubbornly places the rudder axis as throttle and vice versa. In other words, I have to twist the joystick to control throttle and move the throttle handle to control rudder, which of course makes both useless.

The problem occurs on whatever system (4-axis, Thrustmaster, CH) I set DOSBox to emulate for joystick and the Thrustmapper software doesn't allow me to swap the two problematical axis'. Oh, and the problem is exactly the same in all games I've tried under DOSBox.

P.S. Sorry if this is too much off-topic here, since the only Wing Commander game it would apply to is WC3 under DOSBox (or possibly Armada which I don't have, but I suspect it would have throttle support). But any help would be appreciated nonetheless.

If the Thrustmapper software you have doesn't let you swap those axis, then you might be out of luck, unless you can find another third party application to do it. As far as I know once you get to DOSBox, the way it reads the joystick is the way it's going to be, so fixing the problem would be external to that in the Windows environment first.

Thank you for the reply. I guess that's the way it's going to be.

I've been searching few forums about this but haven't found much. And Thrustmapper unfortunately doesn't seem to allow re-assigning the throttle slider. At least DOSBox is getting better all the time so maybe they'll allow more options for joystick setup in the future. Until then I'll just use the keyboard for throttle control like I did on my 486 some 10 years ago.

Would have been nice to get to use all my current toys, though. That's just one of the ways DOSBox can actually be superior to a retro machine when playing through your oldies.
