DOS and himem

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.exe NOEMS
DOS=HIGH
FILES=40
BUFFERS=40
DEVICEHIGH=c:\DEV\TAISATAP.SYS /D:MSCD000 /N:1
LASTDRIVE=Z

Using MS-Dos v. 6.2... I think. Whatever shell comes with WIN98 SE.

Keep in mind, im a Windows boy who knows enough DOS to fool around with a boot disk and possibly get self in trouble... I dont know much about the really deep workings.

Also try playing with these settings.
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE D=64 FRAME=E000 /I=B000-B7FF RAM

I resently built a DOS 6.2/Win3.11 machine and couldn't get anything to load high till I added this stuff to the the emm386.exe line.

This is bacisly what my config.sys look like on my DOS machine.

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE D=64 FRAME=E000 /I=B000-B7FF RAM
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE 1024
STACKS=18,256
FILES=35
BUFFERS=25,0
DOS=HIGH
DOS=UMB
DEVICEHIGH=C:\HXCD-ROM\CDROM.SYS /D:NCI000 /DMA /V

I actually of a menu boot on my machine. I have difference configuration for each game I play. P1, WCA, WC ACADEMY, ST DS9, and RENEGADE Jacob star. I just choose which game I want to play and I'm good to go.

In addition to that, also use this:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.exe RAM NOEMS

And for the record, Win98 (SE) uses MS-DOS 7.1

Also, maybe try the /AUTO switch.

Sorry I didnt get back to the board here, my computer got virused and I didnt have my password available.

Props to Unforgiven for the fix... the RAM switch on the EMM386 line is what did it... an interesting sidenote is that the NOEMS actually kills the type of RAM you need to run Privateer.

John... *puzzled look*. What exactly is that supposed to do? IIRC it does something sorta freaky like memory reservation (?)

What are you trying to do? Are you setting up a dos machine or are you trying to get P1 running? The info we are providing you is under the assumption you are only try to get things to load high under DOS not to get P1 working. P1 needs a special configuration. Give us details.
