1.) The video in Wing Commander, Wing Commander III: Heart Of The Tiger and Wing Commander IV: The Price Of Freedom (With Windows 95 upgrade patch.) all flicker every few seconds. Disabling Advanced Text Services seems to help decrease the frequency of the flickering but does not eliminate it.

2.) Wing Commander, with both expansion packs installed, crashes after clicking through the opening movie. Setting the compatibility mode to Windows 95/98/ME solves the problem but causes the above mentioned flickering.

I've been trying to get these games running for the past week as evidenced by my other topics on this board, which I did try and close to keep from cluttering the board- but couldn't find a button for it. . . If anyone has any thoughts I would greatly appreciate it.

What kind of video hardware do you have? Does adjusting your directx hardware acceleration settings alleviate the flicker at all? It sounds like some kind of overlay issue. The only time I experience this sort of flicker is when using something like FRAPS to record the video (though the actual recorded video doesn't contain the flicker). Do you have some other kind of third part software that you could turn off from running in the background to see it that helps?

1.) Changing hardware/sound acceleration does nothing.
2.) No software running in the background.

2.5ghz Celeron
Radeon 9250 256mb
Realtek AC'97 Audio
1gig RAM
Windows XP SP2

Anything running in the background could potentially be doing it. It's not just main applications, but anti-virus programs, instant messengers, anything in the tray and so on. Have you tried some of the other options in the compatibility mode area such as color and resolution limiting? If possible, try disabling FSAA and any other effects with the video card.

I tried everything. In the end I decided to usea dual boot solution and simply run Windows 98. This seems to solve all my problems. Thanks for your help.
