Great work people!

I love the graphics, especially the plants shown in the background, very well done. The music is... different. The carnaval-like music during attack runs is quite good actually.

As for the missions themselves, it's far, far too diffucult. Often it's 2 -3 ships against 40 - 50 spread over 5 nav points. And those escort or protect carrier missions border on suicide.

Please for UE2, make the missions more reasonable - there are ways of making the game longer without resorting to the player playing the mission over and over and over again. Even on the easiest level I cannot make it past some missions without playing it 7 times. Granted Im not the best player around, but I did finish the other wing commander games ok :p

Just some thoughts - great work! It was hard to tell the retail game from this mod :)

I find replaying missions quite essential in quality titles. I don't even like to think about the number of times I played some of the missions on Goldeneye.
Unknown Enemy was very much aimed at hardcore wing commander fans who'd obviously want more of a challenge than the average player. If our plans to use a non commercial engine in future pans out we'll have to make the game easier as we'll be able to make it more high profile.

1. i can't speak for everyone, but i personally like a game which requires me to go back and play the same mission a couple of times to win. going through a game without losing once isn't fun (course losing ain't fun either, quite frankly it pisses me off, but if you lose a couple of times before you win, it makes victory much more sweet).

2. 2-3 vs 40-50....all i can do is paraphrase a quote from an american fighter pilot from the korean war when he and his wingman found themselves outnumbered by N. Korean migs: "great! we got 'em all to ourselves!"

3. as for the carrier missions being suicidal, read response 1

I would agree with Aries, UE is the response of the people who found WCSO (which is more taxing than WCP) far too easy. The central problem that the more experienced players have is that the ships you spend most of your time in (generally the Vampire and Panther) are too damn good. Their gun and missile loadout is ridiculously powerful while their armour and shields are incredibly thick. UE is a challenge because the only armour available to the Border Worlders seems to be based on cardboard :D

The difficulty of UE is what makes it so satisfying. I was worried I was going to spend more time downloding the game than playing it but that's hardly been the case. The time I finished the mission saving the civillian ships with 100% saves I went crazy.

I never thought WC could look or play as well as UE has managed. Well Done!!

I won the mission where I hve to save beaumont station 3 times, and escote the carrier for repairs there.

What on earth was the password for viewing the narration thing? I won, and promptly forgot what the screen said.

Anyone remember?

WAs mission 3 or 4, dont recall, but had to save many freighters and civilians

Beaufort, not Beaumont. The password you're looking for is LAUNCH.

As Ive said before,I enjoyed so much UE cause of the difficulty...The only WC I found hard at "Nightmare" was WC4.With Prophecy and SO I was laughing in the same difficulty and with Wc3 was a challenge ,but not as Wc4.

When I first d/l UE ,I played it at Nightmare and I got my ass kicked...I said "I dont believe that!"...Its really great ,I looooove challenges.
Also, the storyline and everything is made by pure Wc fans ,thats why the hole game is so enjoyable ;)

The Scimitar has Super Guns, nothing more :D

Give 2 dual Viper Cannons to a Hellcat Variant ,and then we can talk about a Super Ship :)

The thing about balancing fighters is that a ship should not have high gunpower, lots of missiles, lots of protection, AND lots of speed all at once. The Vampire is a prime example of a ship that DOES have these things, whereas the UE ships do not.

The Ferret, Epee, and Salthi all have high speed, but they have thin shields and armor, and only weak-to-medium guns (excluding the limited-ammo Stormfire on the Epee). They are the light, fast, nimble ships.

The Scimitar, Avenger, Grathra, and Ka'ha'haf, on the other hand, all have heavier guns and missile loadouts, but they are handicapped by having less speed and agility.

The Banshee and the Vaktoth don't quite fit the regular spectrum of light and fast <--> heavy and slow, but they too have their handicaps.

The Banshee has speed nearly equal to the Epee with twice the shields and armor, and lots of missiles, but its laser guns actually take longer to penetrate an enemy's shields and armor than any ship other than the Salthi--there is just NO way that you are going to shoot down anything heavier than a Manta with just the lasers.

The Vaktoth has the heaviest fighter gun loadout with the possible exception of the Avenger, but it has moderate speed (only slightly more than the Scimitar) and thin armor (only half as much as the Scimitar).
