Yes. Some of the ships have cloaking devices while some others have sonars which can detect cloaked objects. One of the weapons included in the game is cloaked mines.

Tachyon ping? Cloak detector? Whatever you want to call it - 'sonar' makes it feel a lot more like WW2 in space to me.
I imagine that's the idea, too... it's not one of those conscious screw-yous like Armada's "Sonic Accelerator Gun".
