Help!! I tried to install secret ops to play standoff and when I try to install it says I only have 45 megs or so free on my HD but I have well over 100 Gigs free....any advice?

Old and common bug - its handling the free space with a 32 bit integer, which can only store numbers up to 4Gb. The number it sees wraps around every 4Gb, which can result in it thinking there insufficient space when there's actually plenty. Just waste some space and bring the true value for free space below a multiple of 4Gb rather than just above it.

I actually don't recall that bug applying to Secret Ops, only Privateer 2. SO does fare better with Win95 compatibility switched on, though.

Edit: Ah, didn't realise the OS is Vista x64. That may very well give different conditions that I haven't experienced before.

I installed secret ops in Vista 64bit without any trouble. If setting the compatability mode on the installer didn't work then you could possibly try creating the directory you want to install to before installing... that *might* do the trick.

Well, the trick is:
  • Extract the files from the EXE with WinRAR or some other utility with that capacity.
  • In the extracted files, locate SETUP.EXE, and set the compatibility setting to Win95 onto it.
  • Run SETUP.EXE
  • Once done, go in the folder you installed SO into and set the compatibility flag on LAUNCHER.EXE and SECRETOPS.EXE

Three days ago I built a new installer for Secret Ops that'd save you all this hassle; I just need someone from the CIC to upload it to their FTP and you could try it.

This thread inspired me to make this new installer to fix the problems you've been experiencing when trying to install Secret Ops. I hope your next installation goes smoothly ! ;)
