Avatar

You need to have 2,000 posts to choose a custom title and avatar. There is a list of ranks here. Members who have contributed a lot to the community are sometimes awarded an avatar. There have also been one or two giveaways in the past.
 
Don't worry... with all the exciting new WC stuff in the future, I'm sure we'll have an event or two at which everyone can earn an avatar in the near future.
 
Boy, I worked HARD for my avatar :)
I like this system, it rewards oldtimers, and it's cool to see your rank rise in the meantime.
 
Yes, that's a good point -- the 2,000 limit wasn't invented to punish anyone... it was so people could have fun getting promoted to different ranks.
 
Yeah, it was fun working my way up, even though I got awarded one before hitting 2,000, it is very rewarding to know that even though it's just a picture, to those of us who have been around for a long time it is great to watch people work there way up. It's a small, but very rewarding gesture.
 
If you got a avatar/pic your dying to show people then by all means post it please. In the grand scheme of things does it really matter if you got a tiny picture by your name. Of course I wouldn’t know :)

Yeah, I don't really see any problem with limiting avatars to high posters. heck.. I've been an on again off again poster for a year now and I still have managed to get more than 1/10th the needed posts.

avatars are bandwidth wasters.. and slow down a forum if everyone has one.

Good point, but isn't there a limit on how large an avatar can be?

And it makes me want to go into an epileptic fit when there are moving ones blinking and flashing all over the place. Hundreds and thousands of blinking, flashing, and blinking avatars, blinking and blinking and flashing - they're flashing and they're blinking.

Thank God the CIC isn't like that.
