A Revised Discussion of the Kilrathi Language

Alright, in order to waste time during my ongoing office move, I decided it was time to put my Kilrathi lexicon to the test yet again. So without any further ado, and in honor of the 25th anniversary of the release of Wing Commander II, I present the opening scenes of Wing Commander II as written in the original trathkh daiB'nal...

I want to give a special word of thanks to @Shades2585 for providing me with his WC2 script. I'm definitely open to translating more scenes from WC2 into my Kilrathi language if there's interest. Kind of appropriate since WC2 is where we see it the most (I was going to say "because that's where it got started", but unless I'm mistaken that distinction belongs to Freedom Flight).

Alright, so in the interest of not de-railing another thread any more than it already has been, and at the request of @-danr- , I have translated the dialogue of Scene 1 of WC3 into Kilrathi. I've chunked it down a bit more than I have for the text of Elegy given that the purpose of this is going to be so it can be read and understood out loud. I'll go ahead and post the phonetic pronunciation as well to the best of my ability; it'll be crude but serviceable, at least until I can brush up on my IPA. I may go ahead and eventually do the entire opening of WC3 (Scenes 1-5) complete with the stage directions, but for now I've got the dialogue so I'll go ahead and post it.

Counts for this work are one new and six re-purposed.

Stellar work as always. I like the Kilrathi standardization of Angel's rank too ;)

Ok, give me a week or so, and we'll have an interesting project. Many, many thanks - especially for for the phonetic pronunciationsof everything, this will help me immeasurably!

Videopad, Audacity, Notepad and Zerius Vocoder all in action.

Also, that Lion Vocoder tip seems to work neatly, I've not considered that approach before.

Uh... so in the end, you chose neither to translate, nor to stick with the original "monsieur", but instead went... Spanish? Why? :)

I assumed it was either a geunine oversight and he meant monsieur, or he was being ironic after all the talk of leaving the word in there :)

Twas the latter, done completely on purpose. I've said it before and I'll say it again - we really need a devil's horns emoticon on these forums... :D:D:D

Probably goes without saying - you should use 'monsieur' for the final version.

Ok. Only because I said I would. Put the literal translation beside the phrases the first time the phrase appears in the song...and as I said elsewhere, it's pretty repetitive overall. Anyways...

Felt like mangling some Johnny Cash today. Couldn't remember which song of his they played in the episode "Ray Butts" of SA&B (I want to say it's "Walk the Line", but I'm not sure), so I just picked one of my personal favorites.

Hey, sorry if long overdue.. but could you translate "The blood of my enemies"
Thrakhath
probably sings this in the shower.

Oh, no doubt...I think it's fa'ka'tra, unless I'm mistaken (could just be a general term for "afterlife", but the Cat who uses the term is asking his compatriots who wants to go meet Sivar at the time, so that could be interpreted as a Valhalla-esque equivalent).

And now for something completely different...

♫ Ni'ha orkga erg eshma Khantahr ♫

♫ Ni'ik husiks orinin ♫
♫ Gataga, rashu irormakstha ♫
♫ Ni'ha orkga erg eshma Khantahr ♫

Yeah, forget the Prophecy of Sivar; I just want to sing a little Gilbert and Sullivan...haven't bothered with the second and third verses. Yet.
Venturing a guess..."I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General" from The Pirates of Penzance
