    Whew, indeed. I'm still not too convinced about the difficulty of balancing that, but I can see how the amount of work that implementing it would take is disproportionate compared to the effect it would have. I thought that empty slots could be set to choose pilots randomly from the "active"...

    I don't know the mechanics behind it, but maybe it could be set so there's only a very small chance that a pilot will fail to eject? That would have a pretty negligible effect on available pilots, while still producing that "whoa!" effect - it's a bit artificial that only "Sierra 3" and his pals...
