BREAKING NEWS: Arena Manual Sighted! (June 25, 2007)

Yeah, the call for "three to five year" hopper flight crews to go to Isaac - which, if memory serves, is one of the three systems in P2 - really stood out for me, too. The implication seems to me to be that the systems in P2 are not, for some reason, connected by jump points, at least to the...

    Privateer: Ascii Sector

When you get to the guy the player will eventually have to track down, make sure you establish (in the missions prior to the "final" one for that guy) how sleazy and disreputable a character he is. The fact that he skips out on you should be horribly frustrating, but not all that surprising...

    Privateer: Ascii Sector

That would make a really cool plot mission. The plot drives you to take a series of missions for a less than reputable character, in return for both money, and information to help you along in the plot. You finish the last mission for him, and land to meet up with him. Instead, you find...

    Star Trek: Judgement Rites

I couldn't agree more. I finished Judgement Rites yesterday. I can't beleive how much I enjoyed both games, even today. Everything - from the writing to the music and sound effects - makes you feel like you're actually "playing" episodes of TOS. I only wish they had made a few more of...

    Star Trek: Judgement Rites

Problem solved! Another update: I seem to have solved my problem. As Andrewas suspected, the issue seemed to be with the game CD. Upon close examination of the CD, it appeared to be scratched. Attempts at making a copy of the CD were met with a "read error." My Dad used a home remedy...

    Star Trek: Judgement Rites

So... basically, this might not be a problem I can fix? That's swell. At least mine only crashes when I try to access certain computer topics. I hope I don't encounter crashes when trying to pick the best ending for a mission. Little update on my efforts: I tried tinkering with the...

    Star Trek: Judgement Rites

Thanks for the tips on getting the game to run under Windows XP. Right now, I'll probably just stick with DOSBox. I mean, I have DOSBox, and I'm familiar with how to use it, thanks to having installed/played various WC games. I might as well stick with it for other older, DOS based games...

    Star Trek: Judgement Rites

Since DOSBox worked well at running WC I and II, I've been trying to use it to play other "classic" games that I have fond memories of. Two of my all time favorites are Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, and Star Trek: Judgement Rites. I managed to get the CD-Rom version of 25th Anniversary up and...

    Privateer: Ascii Sector

I suppose this fan project should preferably try to avoid using names that are already used elsewhere in the WC universe. However, I should point out that, here in the U.S., there's a Washington D.C. and a Washington STATE. Furthermore, there are numerous Washington counties in states...

Is CIC the only place where Arena gets positive feedback?

I couldn't disagree more. Chris Roberts - and Origin - managed to put together really great games that "worked" without FMV when they made the first few WC games. WC3, 4, and Prophecy would have been different had they decided not to go with FMV. But, I have no doubt in my mind that they...

Is CIC the only place where Arena gets positive feedback?

WC1, WC2, and Privateer didn't have FMV, and they were all incredible games - thus showing that the heart and soul of Wing Commander has never truly been about FMV. Also, Freelancer lacked FMV, and I found that to be a great game, even if I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the WC series. I...

What would you like to see in a non-standard Wing Commander game?

If we're going to start talking about which characters we'd like to see back, I'd very much like to know what our friends in the Landreich are up to. I guess it's unlikely they'll ever make it into an actual game (given that they were primarily "novel" based), but, you have to admit, they...

    Parlez-Vous Français? (March 1, 2007)

Heart of China is a VERY good game (I've been trying to get my copy to run via DOSBox), but it does seem awfully odd that it would be mentioned as an "alternative" to WC2.

Is CIC the only place where Arena gets positive feedback?

You know what? I actually think I'd be fine with not seeing Casey again. I have nothing against Prophecy or anything, but, for whatever reason, I was just never "sold" on Casey and his friends. Don't know why, but I just never felt as attached to them as I did the original characters. A...

But Is It Ours? (February 27, 2007)

Part of me was a little wary of this game at first. But, as I hear more, I become increasingly excited. Not only do they go to the trouble of advancing the WC storyline a bit, but it also seems to me as though they've come up with an excuse (fighting the Nephilim has sapped military strenght)...

But Is It Ours? (February 27, 2007)

A reference to the WC movie. And, it's likely to end up in an actual WC game. Thus should end the longstanding debate over whether or not the WC movie is "canon."

    Privateer: Ascii Sector

I continue to be impressed by what I'm seeing from this project. Thanks again for working on it, and please continue to keep us up to date!

    Hands On Preview #5 (February 25, 2007)

I think the key part of this article for me is: Arena isn't the "exact" game I've been waiting for all of these years. Nevertheless, I am looking at it as something of a good sign. It could very well mean that a more "proper" WC sequal could be in store for a few years down the road.

What would you like to see in a non-standard Wing Commander game?

I think I agree with others on here that the "non-standard" WC game that I'd like to see most would be a first person shooter - assuming, of course, that it's done right, and that, like Half-Life 2, it has characters that you come to care about and a plot that pulls you in. I'd very much like...

Developer Website Updated (February 23, 2007)

Most of the gamers I know today don't own joysticks. That's something of a problem that's going to need to be overcome the next time a WC game is made for the PC.
