CANTEEN BARTENDER: You a vet?

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Yeah.

CANTEEN BARTENDER: Wait a minute... Hey, I've seen your picture before. Hold on, you're... Wait!

MAJOR TODD "MANIAC" MARSHALL: Honey...

SLAPPING WOMAN: No, I'm not waiting, and don't call me honey! You space pigs are all the same!

MAJOR TODD "MANIAC" MARSHALL: I guess women out here on the edge of nowhere can't appreciate a civilized man.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Sure they do -- when they meet one.

MAJOR TODD "MANIAC" MARSHALL: Good to see you, too, Colonel. Or should I say 'farmer' Blair? Glad you could fit me into your busy schedule.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: It's a peaceful life.

MAJOR TODD "MANIAC" MARSHALL: I've always said, you're either an earthworm or an eagle.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: So what, you must have been flying since the last time I saw...

MAJOR TODD "MANIAC" MARSHALL: Since you got lucky on that bombing run on Kilrah? Yeah, of course I'm still flying. What else is there? Beats trompin' around in fertilizer.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Well you know, Maniac, maybe trompin' around in fertilizer is what I want to do. Maybe, after putting my life on the line day after day for all of those years, hearing the crunch my feet make on real dirt is what I want.

MAJOR TODD "MANIAC" MARSHALL: Well, it sounds like you memorized that speech. Good for you.

SEETHER: You'll do as I ask. Nothing more... nothing less.

COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Anybody gonna stop this?

MAJOR TODD "MANIAC" MARSHALL: Not my problem. Maybe you should go over and tell him who's boss, "Colonel War Hero."

bartender You a vet?

Blair just nods. the bartender stares at him for a beat, then his eyes begin to widen.

bartender Hey, I've seen your picture! Why sure, you're--

Blair pays for his drink...

Blair Thanks.

... and moves away from the bar.

the bartender just gapes in awe. star port canteen - Maniac, seether -a1ÿÿ CONDITION: This REQUIRED scene not available until Scene -A1 has played.

NOTE: The onscreen text for cueing this conversation should be "Talk to Unidentified Pilot."

Blair looks around the room. still no sign of maniac. but there IS that pilot with his back to us, scratching his ass as he talks to an ATTRACTIVE WOMAN...

Blair moves to him and taps him on the shoulder just as...

Unidentified Pilot (to woman) So, what do you say?

the woman slaps him in the face and storms off. Blair stands there with a knowing smile as the pilot rubs his cheek and turns to reveal that he is, of course, Maniac.

MANIAC quickly recovers from the rejection and flashes that trademark smug grin.

Maniac Guess women out here on the edge of nowhere can't appreciate a civilized man.

Blair Sure they do. When they meet one.

Maniac Good to see you, too, 'Colonel'-- or should I say, 'Farmer' Blair?

Blair It's a peaceful life.

Maniac (laughs) I've always said, 'you're either an earthworm or an eagle.'

Blair Guess you've been flying since...

Maniac Since you got lucky with that bombing run on Kilrah? 'Course I have. What else is there? Beats trompin' around in fertilizer.

Blair Listen, maybe trompin' around in fertilizer is what I want to do. Maybe after putting my life on the line day in and day out for twenty years, hearing the crunch my feet make on real dirt is what I want.

Maniac (beat; serious) Sounds like a speech you've memorized.

Blair pauses. Maniac may have just scored a hit.

Suddenly a commotion erupts on the other side of the room: a man with icy eyes (Seether -- NOT dressed as a pilot) has knocked over a table and now shoves another MAN up against a wall, grabbing him by the throat.

Seether (hissing) You'll do as I ask. Nothing more. Nothing less.

man But you still owe me for that last run--

Seether tightens his grip on the man's throat.

Blair looks around the room, then at Maniac.

Blair Isn't anyone gonna stop this?

Maniac (shrugs) Ain't my problem. Maybe you should go show 'im who's boss, 'Colonel War Hero.'

Blair looks back at the two men having the "disagreement" and decides...
