Terrans, commonly known as humans, are a race that originated on the planet Earth and are the most populous race in the Terran Confederation.
Terrans are intelligent, highly social, bipedal carbon-based life forms with a strong need to explore and gather knowledge, a trait that has spread the species far beyond its homeworld. Terrans are clever and inventive, traits that have ensured their survival despite countless bloody conflicts.
Eventually, humanity came to possess the ability to travel to different star systems, and over the centuries have expanded their dominion to thousands of colonies scattered across the Orion Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. By the 2600s, humanity had split up into various factions, including the Terran Confederation, the Union of Border Worlds, and the Free Republic of the Landreich, with several minor nations included.
The first real threat to humanity emerged with the discovery of the Kilrathi in 2629. The Kilrathi Empire immediately saw the Terrans as an enemy and for the next 35 years waged a brutal war against the Terran Confederation. This conflict nearly saw the fall of Earth in 2669 when the Terrans succeeded in destroying the Kilrathi homeworld of Kilrah, thus ensuring their continued survival.
