On 2654.279, the TCS Tiger's Claw, which was in the Kurasawa System as part of the Terran Confederation's offensive against the Empire of Kilrah's forces in the system, recieved a tight band transmission from the Exeter-class Destroyer TCS Formidable. The ship was in rough shape as it had just came from a scrap with the enemy and needed an escort to the Tiger's Claw. Ian St. John and "Waxman" were originally given the escort assignment but Christopher Blair requested the mission as he had served aboard the Formidable during his Academy days.

Chi Wing, flown by Blair and Kien Chen, was then launched and rendezvoused with the Formidable. During the trip back to the Tiger's Claw, Chi Wing encountered six Dralthi and four Krant kilrahti fighters.
