Petrenkov served as squadron commander for the TCS Austin during Operation Crusade in 2655. After a Kilrathi strike force slipped through the Austin's fighter screen, catching the cruiser unawares, Petrenkov resigned his command, though Commander Reilly refused to accept it while the ship was deployed. He was replaced by Jeannette Devereaux.
