The Exeter-class destroyer was the primary Terran Confederation 'battleship' of the Vega Campaign, replacing the larger warships of the previous era. Exeters served in major sieges and amphibious assaults. They also serve as armored transports for dignitaries. The TCS Perez de Cuellar and TCS U Thant ferried dipolmats to Firekka. The TCS Tiger's Claw's battle group Delta included an Exeter.
The destroyers carry a single squadron of eighteen light and medium fighters, often including Hornets and Rapier IIs. Other notable Exeters include the TCS Formidable, where Christopher Blair served his cadet cruise, and the TCS Gwenhyvar, which was captured by the Kilrathi and used to ambush other Confederation ships in 2655.
