An Ace was a pilot who had shot down five spacecraft on his/her own. In the Terran Confederation, pilots would earn a Ace Performance Service Ribbon with five kills.

Behind the scenes
In the first three Wing Commander games the player can encounter (and shoot down) Kilrathi aces. The aces are tougher than regular Kilrathi pilots and in Wing Commander 3 fly fighters with non-standard weapons.
