Designed as a medium fighter, it was developed with a standard payload built on a chassis that fulfilled its intended purpose as a capable all-purpose starfighter.
The most remarkable innovation of the Wraith was its speed. At the time of its introduction in the 2660s, it was reputedly the fastest starfighter in galactic history. It was also designed alongside the Leech Missile and the Reaper Cannon, both of which were designed specifically for usage by the Wraith during development.
As the Wraith proceeded with the final stages of development, the Confederation Space Naval Academy's CyberSchool trained prospective pilots for service in the Wraith in the holographic simulators. The first Wraiths flew in 2667, and entered active service in 2669.
