COLONEL CHRISTOPHER BLAIR: Space Marshal Tolwyn believes that our victory over the Kilrathi was a fluke. That we as a race need tinkering with. Engineering. If a few billion die along the way, well they weren't worthy anyway. Why can't we be more like the Kilrathi? Addicted to conflict. The only meaning to life being found in death. Tell us all, Admiral! Is that the price of freedom?
ADMIRAL TOLWYN: Mankind was at his zenith when fighting the Kilrathi. Now our society is crumbling. We have no goals, no focus. We've grown complacent and confused. Who will protect us when the next race tries to dominate us? Who can tell where that threat will come from, and when? No. We must be prepared. Progress only comes through struggle. Fighting keeps us fit. Conflict ensures our readiness and our survival. The Kilrathi understood this. They endured for millions of years and so shall we, if we continue fighting! If we continue to perfect our methods of killing...

CONDITION: Blair's score = 1 or more:
Blair 'Space Marshal' Tolwyn believes humanity's victory over the Kilrathi was a fluke. That we as a race need tinkering with. Engineering. If a few billion people die along the way -- well, they weren't worthy anyway. If only we could all be more like the Kilrathi ... addicted to conflict, the only meaning to life being found in death. Tell us all, Admiral ... Is that the price of freedom?
Tolwyn grips the podium in rage.
Tolwyn Mankind was at his zenith when fighting the Kilrathi! Now our society is crumbling. We have no goals. No focus. We've grown complacent and confused.
tolwyn pounds the podium to make his point.
tolwyn Who will protect us from the next race that wishes to dominate us?! Who can tell where this threat will come from? Or when? We must be prepared. Progress comes only from struggle. Fighting makes us fit. Conflict ensures our readiness and survival. The Kilrathi understood this: they endured for millions of years and so shall we if we continue fighting! If we continue to perfect our methods of killing--
Tolwyn stops short, suddenly realizing that Blair has taunted him into saying far more than he should... suddenly realizing that you can hear a pin drop: the assembly has withdrawn into stunned silence.
paladin I think we've heard enough. (beat) We shall now take the vote...
Go to Winning Endgame. Winning Endgame:
midgame: great assembly -Wend tolwyn hangs his head in shame...
Blair looks up to where an electronic "toteboard" shows the votes being tabulated... overwhelmingly, the vote is "no"... the assembly erupts in cheers...
paladin claps blair on the back. but blair looks at least as weary as he does glad... maybe what he's accomplished hasn't sunk in yet...
midgame: tribunal -wend -- tolwyn sits in front of a tribunal. cameras roll as a gavel BANGS.
-- we see a montage of witnesses testifying against tolwyn. There's the doctor from planet ft957 in telamon... There's the old confed vet blair captured... lt.ÿsosa... a former Black lancer... maniac... eisen... and finally, Blair himself...
-- the gavel BANGS again --
midgame: cell -wend tolwyn paces the tiny, brightly-lit cell... it is a far cry from the days when tolwyn strode super-carrier bridges and his own vast office...
tcn anchor (v.o.) ...Space Marshal Tolwyn's appeal was denied today. (beginning to fade) Tolwyn is now slated for execution on...
midgame: cell -wend now darkened, so much so that we can't see anything for a moment... then we see the bunk, but it's empty... we hear a tiny creaking sound...
we look up... a silhouetted figure hangs from the rafters...
