Notes

Interpreting the List

• Ship names are ordered alphabetically by faction.
• Where it is known that two or more ships share the same class but that their formal designation is unknown, the list classifies them as being the type of whichever ship appears first alphabetically. (Ex., the TCS Sheffield is listed as being a Coventry-type destroyer.)
• When issues arise about a ships specific classification, citations are listed under the 'class ship'. (Ex., the reasoning behind the Agincourt (II)-type being listed as heavy cruiser is noted under TCS Agincourt (II) rather than TCS Ajax.) When a ship has multiple classifications, these are also listed together under the class ship and then only where appropriate in individual examples.
• Citations are not necessarily the only place in the continuity which a ship appears; they are only the instance that best classifies a ship.

History of the List

The Wing Commander Ships List was created by the request of the Secret Ops team during the development of that game. It is the same list cited by Peter Telep in the acknowledgements of the Wing Commander movie novel. The original version attempted to fill in gaps in the Wing Commander universe wherever reasonable. While this was necessary for its original purpose, it has over time rendered the original document obsolete as a reference source for fan projects, fan fiction and future Wing Commander products. The new version seeks to leave all unspecified data clearly marked. The original ships list can be found archived for posterity at https://www.wcnews.com/articles/art22.shtml
