Origin's Official Guide to Wing Commander Prophecy
The Remora/Ray Node Cluster is an entirely different type of Alien swarm ship. A Ray Node ship is surrounded by up to seven unpiloted Remora drones.
Each tiny Remora carries one Light Burst Maser and provides additional firepower for the Ray Node that supplies its power. Power is transferred remotely, with no need for physical contact. Think of the Remoras as free-flying turrets.
You cannot target the individual Remoras while the Ray Node is alive. However, once you've killed the node ship, the individual Remoras will attack you in a swarm. You will then be able to target htem individually and pick them off one by one.

Description: This is a pure space superiority variation of the “swarm” fighter. A single power distribution “node ship” produces energy for up to seven smaller cannon-armed vessels which fly in space around it (unlike other cluster ships, never joining into a single unit). These smaller vessels are remotely linked and function almost as free-flying turrets.
Destruction of the node ship causes a massive explosion, plus due to the symbiotic relationship between the two ships the destruction of all associated fighters. Conversely the destruction of all of the Rays will overload and destroy the node ship.
