The Battle of Freya was a campaign conducted by the Terran Confederation in 2669 with the stated aim of capturing and occupying the Freya System.

Prelude

In 2669, the Terran Confederation found itself on the brink of defeat in the thirty-five year Terran-Kilrathi War. The Kilrathi Empire was gaining increased momentum on the frontier as numerous Terran star systems continued to fall. Their aim was to conquer Earth by year's end, knowing full well that the destruction of the Terran homeworld would lead to the collapse of humanity. It became clear to the Confederation that the only way in which humanity could hope to win the war outright was to destroy the Kilrathi homeworld of Kilrah.

In 2669, the Confederation attempted to destroy Kilrah with the TCS Behemoth, a massive planet-killer that employed a massive superlaser. Unfortunately, this starship was destroyed when its weak points were leaked to the Kilrathi by a traitor working within the Confederation ranks. After this defeat, Brigadier General James Taggart of the Special Operations Division approached High Command with the Temblor Bomb, a warhead that could destroy an entire planet by disrupting its tectonic makeup. The plan was accepted but in order for it to succeed, the route to Kilrah had to be cleared.

High Command deduced that the only direct route to Kilrah was a jump point located in the Freya System, which was under firm Kilrathi control. It was decided that the star system had to be captured at all cost if the mission to destroy Kilrah was to succeed.
