Charon is a star system in the Epsilon Sector. It is on the frontier of the Kilrathi Empire, and well outside the influence of the Terran Confederation.
Charon hosts four planets and was first settled in 2489. The only inhabited planet in the system is Ghorax Tha.
Charon became embroiled in the Terran-Kilrathi War during Operation Crusade in 2655, in which the Terran Confederation fought to defend the Firekkan homeworld of Firekka from a massive Kilrathi invasion. When the Terrans were overwhelmed by the continued onslaught, they were ordered to retreat. The TCS Tiger's Claw fled to the Charon System as it retreated from Firekka. Despite numerous attempts by the Kilrathi to destroy the warship, the Claw evaded its pursuers and fled to Terran airspace after a successful defensive action. Firekka freed itself from the invaders in the days that followed. The action at Charon left a massive debris field in its wake, which would later be dubbed "The Boneyard".
The asteroids of Charon also provide for an excellent source of Gotherian crystals, which are of great value to whoever harvests them.
The Tiger's Claw conducted several defensive missions at Charon on 2655.295. These include:
- A series of patrols aimed at destroying pursuing Kilrathi warships. At least one Snakeir-Class Carrier was among those vessels destroyed.
- An escort mission for the Claw that saw the vessel escape an ambush from a Kilrathi strike force consisting of one Snakeir, three Fralthi-Class Cruisers, and four Ralari-Class Destroyers.
By 2701, Charon hosted a population of 19,498,335,783, and the planet Charon III had grown to become a Kilrathi pleasure world. On Charon III, many war palaces can be found and the k'g'harg ceremony is regularly practiced here. It is accessible to Terrans, but only so many have found the guts to witness such ceremonies.
