Unfortunately the rest of the combat system for it is unbalanced also. Shields and Energy Weapons are too strong, and manueverablility has been reduced.

I would like to see a game where it is actually balanced (and no, UO is not balanced).

Um, manoeuvrability, may have been reduced in WCP, but I feel its a little more realistic - whereas in past WC movement was instantaneous, WCP built up manoeuvring speed gradually. Then again, I use the keyboard, always have. But I still think the Vampire has an incredible roll/pitch rate, with those "self-articulating nacelles"

Metras and knight: about the guns, shields, missiles and stuff, it can be edited easily, so this isnt a problem, its more like the AI controlled ships act is the main problem, at least for me

Wedge: i partially agree with you, my point is that the bugs basically doesnt make any manuevers, they just fly straight ahead firing, them turn around running in a single direction, they hardly even try anything to avoid your fire...and dont even want to start talking about confed ships getting in your way when you are firing on the bugs...

Well, its classified... i mean, i could tell you, but then i have to kill you...

WCIII and IV were sometimes too easy, because of the Leech missles. One leach took out another fighter no matter the size. I would have like to have seen the leech knock them out for 60 or 90 seconds, instead of permanently. However, I have to admit leeches made missions that should have been hard pretty easy.

Knight, you referring to the Cerberus' Plasma gun? It certainly isn't a joke when you've nearly completed a five-point escort, and the stupid thing blasts your Panther to slag... Though I have seen it take out enemy fighters before. Admittedly not as many as the number of times it's blasted me.

It's even more of a 'joke' watching the Plunketts try to blast the fighters with their artillery.

I think I'm one of the few who liked the Cerebus's gun. Never shot me once and saw it take out dozens of fighters who were stupid enought to fly straight at it.

What I'm talking about is the fact that the damn gun can take out cap-ships from afar, but it would rather shoot at fighters, and not always the bad guys it seems. It's a joke because it shreds your Panther/Vamp/Shrike/Dev/Wasp. Not because it shoots at fighters. And Vondoom, I never really had time to watch it, I was kinda busy playing the game

Never said I watched it, was too busy taking out enemies by the dozen to worry about it. I just said that it never hit me.

Sorry Knight, I was actually agreeing with you. And there really are several instances where the Cerberus has close encounters with capships, but fails to make use of the big gun on it. Heh, at one time I had just finished off a destroyer, and everyone was getting into formation to hit the next nav point, but one of the Cerberus' tachyon turrets kept firing at the centre of the destroyer...

Sorry, I took that to mean that you were actually paying attention to those, rather than your current target

You're being unfair, guys

. It's not the Cerberus' fault that its gun is useless. The blame falls squarely in the laps of the AI people, who didn't consider that there may be capships capable of engaging other capships. Of course, back in WCP, this was true (note that the Kraken's plasma weapon is cutscene-based, and the capship missiles are scripted to do what they do - thus, they do not rely on AI).

I dunno... I think the WC2 battles make up for any lack within the other games.

You are in no way entitled to any WC games, if you don't have them its your own damn fault.

Them AMGs rocked! I just wanna see a little more of it in the newer games that's all. I know there's the cutscene in SO with the Plunkett, but that doesn't really count.

They need something similar to the Capship battles in FS2. Those were by far the best capship battles ever in regular game play. I think the reason origin chose that is so that you get all the credit for taking out a cap ship

I agree with the credit 'one-pilot-army' thing, but I haven't played Freespace, though my friend told me of a mission where a huge enemy capship invades, the 'good guys' bring in their own one, and a headache of a fleet battle ensues. Sounds like all those cool fleet engagements in the X-Wing novels.

Remembers me of the original X-Wing game. An ISD and a Resel cruiser whacking each other with all that green and red turret fire. And you squashed in the middle trying not to get hit.

Certain battles in FS2 are very difficult, and very looong. Most of the time you'll be winning the battle by a hair, that is, if the game doesn't force a scripted defeat down your throat.

I borrowed X-WingCD from a friend. Being a Star Wars fan as well, I liked the game, but lacking a decent joystick, I went into fits trying to play with the mouse. Not fun at all. If only there was a keyboard option, I might have liked the X-Wing series as much as WC.

Wedge, why would you want to play xwing or any space sim without a joystick. You can get a good basic one for 20 bucks and a very good one for 40???? Good lord, a keyboard or mouse blow next to a nice joystick. I love the mission in X-Wing when the rebel fleet is preparing to flee and a star destroyer pops in right on you and starts slicing up the fleet. You really had to fear Cap ships in that game. And did anyone beside me have more trouble with kilrahti corvettes than any other cap ship in WC3. They caused me more trouble than cruisers and carriers.
