Star Trek XI Teaser

I was so excited to see the teaser that I ran down to the theater on my lunch break on Friday, bought a ticket for the first show of Cloverfield and left afterwards to run back to my office in time. It was worth it! I like being excited about something, for once.

Hey that was pretty cool. I like the audio clips referencing different moments in space travel history.

Not completely unlike the intro to WCM. That really is one of the best parts of the film, IMO.

Yeah, I really liked the clip as well. I just wish there was a decent Star Trek website now that startrek.com has pretty much stopped being updated.

omg omg omg!!!

That is awesome... I honestly almost pulled what loaf did. Thanks for posting this!!!

Though dare I say... some of the parts under construction look like parts of the refit, not actually the original... wait... Winona Ryder!? In a Star Trek movie!???

NoOOOooOOOOOOooooOOOOOOoOOOoo!!

I just sincerely hope they don't "redo" things too much. Call me conservative, but I'll be very disappointed if they mess with the Enterprise bridge instead of bringing back the original.

I don't mind a few facelifts. I'd like to see that sort of 1960's sci-fi motif, but some extra detail and better set design than cardboard rooms in primary colors wouldn't be unapreciated.

Winona Ryder... one of the reasons why "Alien Resurrection" became so lame. Hope they don't post her as a vulcan.
I dunno about remakes. "Casino Royale", I thought, was quite good because it was "remake/revamp". Dunno if I could stand seeing that mostly-red bridge on the big screen; it might affect my migranes. :D

She's gonna be Spock's mother... so hopefully it won't be a big part.

As to the refit design being used, well there isn't really enough shown to judeg that is there?

The bridge section of the pre-refit Enterprise didn't change that much between the series and the film, though it did change quite a bit during the series. The deeper, more refined, hull panels are probably more of an aesthetic choice because they can make it more detailed that way. Back when the original series aired the model making technology wasn't as good, or affordable, as today so a perfectly smooth hull would have been easier to create then. At one point they were even using an AMT Enterprise model kit to film other ships like the Defiant. The place where it will really show, if they recycled the refit design, is in the main deflector dish and warp nacelles. So far the teaser really only shows the saucer section and the updated lettering for the ship's name.

Casino Royale isnt a remake the first one wasnt even a bond movie it was a spoof.

As for it being the refit enterprise you can see its not in the last shot if you look at the warp nacells they are round and turning almost like a fan

Sure there is -- you can see the nacelles under construction in the last shot... they're big and round like the original rather than flat like the refit.

True... I went back and looked, i saw what you are talking about. The reason i thought it looked like they were building the refit was 1. The plating, the plating in the original series was rectangular whereas in the movies it was more like a jigsaw puzzle. 2. Remember in The Search For Spock when the lights on the Bridge came on? I swear I saw those on the uncompleted saucer... something that wasn't on the original model either... It will be interesting to see if they make any changes to the ship. However I stand corrected now.

The original Enterprise model ended the series with a lot of hull textures, too -- if you've ever seen it in the Air and Space Museum, it looks kind of messy even.

I wouldn't put too much thought into this trailer, though - I think the idea is just to get across that the movie is "under construction," and that the film itself may not have anything to do with building the Enterprise (any more than Star Trek V actually involved putting seat belts in theaters, if you remember those teaser posters...)

I am kind of disappointed that it's apparently 'on Earth', as open as the canon is on the subject. I remember being five years old and having my dad explain to me that the Enterprise was SO big that it had to be built in space. So if it isn't something from the original series it's at least something that's been in our collective consciousnesses for a long time.

Yes, I realized that upon repeat viewing.:D

I grew up on Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica, so I'm always open to any new entries. When I was younger, my pre Space Odyssey days, Star Trek 5 was one of my top 3 favorites. Nowadays, I still enjoy watching it and the Rifftrax adds a whole new level of enjoyment for me. :) So even if they totally botch the job with the new one at least we can take solace in Mike Nelson giving the film some worth. ;)
