ntdll.dll crash?

When trying to start Privateer I get the "Garbled Image" screen, then after a couple of moments I receive the following error in a MS Error report dialog box:

Faulting application vegastrike.exe, version 0.4.3.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00001095.

This error also shows up in the event log.

I have the following setup:

XP Home SP 2
AMD XP 1700+
1.47ghz
768MB Ram
ATI Radeon 9500 PRO / 9700

Did you play around with the graphics settings in setp.exe?

yeah, I've set it as low as I can go and still it crashes
