Just How Did They Do That?

How did they do that? There have been numerous manuals, books, novels, and games (also the movie) on Wing Commader. Most of them are made from different people (sorry, I mean written). After 'browsing' through most of this 'presumed' entangled web, I have found that almost all of it is neatly threaded together, with little or no anomalies in it.

So how'd they do it? How did they make this entire ongoing series with few gaps? (if any)

Metras: All previous works are used as references to avoid conflict (unless you are the original author/maker like Chris Roberts)
There are libraries that specialize on these and they make money from providing the necessary data.
