general thoughts on campaign

I finished the campaign last night (Pre2). Here are some thoughts:

1. IMO the main issue with plot missions remains the incomprehensible dialogue. Without responses from your character, the dialogue lacks meaning, and it is very hard to understand. This culminated in the final mission, where, to put it mildly, I had no idea what the hell was going on when the Steltek fighter was talking to me.
- both the fighter's text and my text was labeled the same (different color, I think, but same header)
- There is over a minute of one-sided dialogue. About halfway through I knew I had no chance of comprehending it in real time.
- After the Steltek fighter was done talking, I paused the game, ALT-TABed out, and went to Wedge009's site to read the script. I was much happier after that.

2. I paused the game before the forced jump to Blockade Point Tango. However, Commodore Reismann's dialogue played anyway. When I unpaused later and jumped in, his dialogue played again.

3. The confed did much more damage to me than the drone did during the final showdown. Any way to make them chill out a little? It is impressive to behold, but not when you're in a Paradigm's line of fire.

4. The lack of the cutscene showing the fighter towing away the derelict leaves a hole in the story. If I fly back to Delta Prime, will the derelict be gone?

I think the incomprehensible dialogue is the main problem. It really leaves me with a big "HUH???" every time it happens.

I understood the dialouge without problems. Of all complaints about the Priv Remake this would possibly the most minor of all.

It's come up before..

The addition of microfactions might ease things. Plot NPCs now have their own comms animations and voices. It might be possible to set them up with a unique conversation tree where one reply leads to another until they get mad and it reverts to a normal conversation tree.

There are difficulties with it though. How to make sure they start a conversation, and how to move things along if they player doesn't bother responding. In the original, they'd just continue after a while. That would require a bit of juggling here.

So the answer is the same as the last time, we're trying stuff. Lynx, good to hear that if it doesn't work out, at least someone is fine with how it is lol
