Game crashes whenever I use the keyboard?

Trying to play this on a Compaq 1720US Laptop. (P3-1.13ghz, 512mb ram, ATI Mobility Radeon (M6) with latest Omega drivers)

Everything works fine, until I try to use the keyboard, either on a base or mid-flight. The second I touch a key, the game either hangs or crashes.

This is what the end of stderr.txt looks like after hitting tab mid-flight:

This game got me through puberty. If someone can help me, I imagine it'll get me through my mid-20s as well. Help! Please!

windowed?

Some of the devs before had suggested trying windowed mode with various problems...
Could you try that?

I've tried windowed mode, 16-bit, 32-bit, all the video modes, sound on, sound off, etc.

It still crashes.

You might try using that "bit torrent" program to see if you've got a corrupt file somewhere.
There's several posts about people using it to fix errors.
