C&C 3 Announced

Mr Kat says...
Fansite PlanetC&C reports that the latest PC Gamer issue (June 2006) has the scoop on the next game in the Command & Conquer franchise from EA, currently titled C&C3.

If the developers can capture the original's simple charm and/or the pulpy thrill of the first Red Alert with a next-gen engine, I'll be happy. I wonder if EA will authorise FMV again? Generals had some green screen sequences, although I can't recall if Zero Hour had them or not -- the franchise has so far been one of the few to buck the terminal decline of the early 90's FMV fixation.

Cheers,

BrynS

Thanks for the clarifications, Chris. Looking forward to the eventual, E3 media deluge on this one!

I can only hope that this will in fact be Tiberium Twilight, not another side game like Red Alert or Generals.

Same here. I was soooo mad when I found out that they changed the project to Generals. But I also read that they will still be doing Tiberium Twilight.

Last I heard, Red Alert 3 was in development, not tiberium twilight- I think the announcment was from a year ago- check the cncden site.

I don't care what it is, I just hope it doesn't suck and sells very well as a result. I mean, if the C&C franchise would take off fast again, it could lead to a general re-evaluation of the WC franchise.

And personally, the main-dude from Tiberian Sun didn't do it for me like the guy that did General Sheppard (Eric Martin). Of couse, the only thing that really disapointed me about RA2 and Generals was there wasn't an ominous appearance of Kane like at the end of the Soviet campaign of RA. I guess they figured vague tie-ins weren't needed anymore (or I'm just being a silly sentimentalist).

Especially if they can get Terminator Guy (Michael Bean?) and Bald-Dude to return. :)

The bald-guy you are refering to is Joseph Kuyan...supposEd-creator of the C&C series. Well at least RED ALERT.

And i would love to see another Tiberium Sun coming to our PC's soon.

The bald guy is actually Joseph Kucan, not Kuyan.

He didn't create the C&C series, but he directed all the movie footage from each game, from the original through to Yuri's Revenge.

He also starred as Kane in the original C&C, Tiberian Sun, Red Alert and Renegade

I hope he's back!

hopefully RA3 is more like RA and not RA2 which was good, but overally cartoonish, but the best interface of them all. put that interface into a more detailed environment within the RA/C&C world it would be a formula for something grand...

I always thought Kane was the best character in any C&C game. He was so evil, it made playing NOD a lot of fun. It would be awesome if Kane comes back in C&C3.

I actually like the interface and play of Generals better then red alert or C&C... but Generals didn't even bother with a plot, other then that GLA was the "pointlessly "evil" side everyone beats up on." Personally, I'd rather C&C 3 built off of Generals style game play with Tiberium Dawn style plot.

That being said, if they do make it like Generals, I hope they either nerf some of the units or give every side a reasonable counter for every other side's units- the rocket humvee and overpowered air units in that game are ridiculous.

Joe Kucan was shitcanned back in 2002, right around the time Renegade was released. EA instituted a minor round of layoffs, and he was one of the folks lost in the shuffle.

So it's questionable as to whether he'll return.

It is never understood who actually created C&C?

A big hmm.....with another question mark. As far as i know Tiberium Sun was the last I saw of him (have yet to complete that game) and he makes an animated appearance as a holographic character for a short second in Renegade. Be good for Mr Kucan to come back though. He brought the most hideos and frightful character that no man should ever associate with, to life.

Why reference the Dune creators. How comes this has something to do with them.

Small research when looking at the credits of Dune (1992) for DOS:

Remi Herbulot
Philippe Ulrich
Patrick Dublanchet
Edward Marcus

The big who-dunit question.

Command and Conquer was not the first C&C game. Dune was. Find out who created the Dune RTS and there ya go.

Dune isn't a "C&C game," it's a Dune game. Neither one was the first real time strategy game, although Dune was the first really popular one for PCs. No one person ever creates any game (even Richard Garriott had help on the first Ultima), especially when the game is developed by a real development studio. And it's a simple matter to check the credits and see all the many people who were involved.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 2006--The epic struggle between the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) and The Brotherhood of NOD continues ... and the third Tiberium War is about to begin.
